The full proceeds received by Diageo from the auction of the Lagavulin 1991 Bottle Number 1/522 will be donated to Islay Heritage (OSCR No. SC046938) to fund projects on Islay which are designed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the rich and diverse history of Islay.

The first edition of Black Bowmore 1964, released in 1994.
The Bowmore distillery underwent an extensive upgrade in late 1963, and this bottling comes from the first distillation following the conversion. This was matured in oloroso sherry casks before bottling in 1994. Each bottle is numbered and signed by the then distillery manager, James McColl.
