Take a look at a selection of highlights from the Whisky.Auction September Whisky & Spirits Auction.

Our September auction was brought to an exciting conclusion with plenty of competitive late bidding. There was an eclectic range of lots on offer, as ever, including some unique experiences donated by industry friends as part of our charity auction in collaboration with Equal Measures. Here are some of the highlights from our September auction results.
Just a small aftersales update this month as there was very little remaining unsold at the close of the auction. Significantly though, the top lot status was moved to an aftersale lot with a successful offer of £7,600 for this Remy Martin Louis XIII Black Pearl Edition that allowed it to usurp the Yamazaki 1984.
Further bottles with successful offers were this Chichibu 2012 Red Wine Cask 5743 (£400), a Springbank 1993 Private Bottling (£300) and a Glenlivet Archive 21 Year Old (£155).
This month’s auction included lots kindly donated by friends in the industry to raise funds for Equal Measures. All proceeds, including buyer commission, were donated from the sale of the lots which included hard to find bottles and one-of-a-kind experiences.
For £5,000, one generous bidder won the opportunity for a dream experience on Islay thanks to Ferguson Whisky. The lot included an exclusive warehouse tasting and a cask of Islay whisky as well as a 2 night stay at The Manse in Port Charlotte.
Other experiences included a Remote Highland Getaway courtesy of Arnamurchan (£1,050), a Glenturret Whiskymakers Experience with 2 Michelin Star plates donated by The Glenturret (£575) and an Old and Rare Whisky Tasting hosted by Milroy’s (£490).
Bottles included this stunningly presented Glenallachie 1990 35 Year Old that sold for £1,200, a Rosebank 31 and 32 Year Old Gift Box (£525) and a Chichibu 2012 TWE 20th Anniversary Bottling that fetched £430.
The auction raised £15,745.11 in total for Equal Measures.
September’s top lot was taken by this Yamazaki 1984 Single Cask, achieving a hammer price of £7,000. The whisky was matured in a single puncheon and bottled at a cask strength of 56%.
A bottle of Yamazaki 25 Year Old also made the top three lots fetching £4,800, while a Hibiki 21 Year Old bottled to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Suntory Whisky sold for £1,900 and a Yamazaki 18 Year Old Mizunara, also bottled for the 100th anniversary, fetched £825.
This Karuizawa 2000 12 Year Old, intriguingly titled ‘Nite Nurse Nipped By Piranhas’ by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, sold for £1,050.

There were a number of long-aged malts available such as this Laphroaig 1960 40 Year Old, one of only 300 released, which sold for £4,000, and a Glenfarclas 1962 from The Family Casks range, bottled in 2011, that fetched £2,400.
A Macallan Glenlivet 1938 35 Year Old bottled in the 1970s and imported to Italy by Pinerolo sold for £2,000. Macallan claimed the longest aged malt and the most expensive miniature lot with a 1945 56 Year Old Fine & Rare. Bottled in 2002 from cask #262, this 5cl bottle reached a hammer price of £1,850.
Other mature malts from collectors favourites included a Port Ellen 1978 37 Year Old (£1,850), the 16th release in Diageo’s Special Releases series, a Springbank 1969 45 Year Old from Lombard’s Jewels of Scotland range (£1,650), and a Glenlivet 1977 45 Year Old Ultra bottled by Murray McDavid (£1,600).

Big bottles can be a showstopper on any bar and the leading Cognac lot was this gigantic 600cl Rouyer Guillet 40 Year Old Reserve bottled in the 1940s and still in great condition. It ended the sale with a winning bid of £2,100.
Other aged Cognacs included a Croizet 1914 Grande Reserve bottled in the 1950s (£460), a 1949 Augier Freres bottled by Avery’s (£550) and a Lheraud 1950 Grande Champagne Cognac (£390).
A bottle of Hennessy Cuvee Bicentenaire bottled to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of US Independence fetched £700.
This month’s auction offered up a large rum selection with over 100 rums to choose from. A 450cl Royal Navy Rum Flagon in its traditional wicker casing dating from the 1940s was the highlight of the category with a hammer price of £1,850.
A decanter of Appleton Estate 250th Anniversary rum sold for £850 and this Caroni 1996 23 Year Old Heavy Rum, part of the Special Edition releases featuring ex-staff of the distillery, sold for £500.
Most of the Bacardi rums came from a single collection and just a few of the standout results were these Bacardi 1873 Ron Solera, selling for £320-£360 each, and a hotly contested Bacardi Carta Blanca The Sound Of Rum that ended on £190.

One of the most fiercely contested lots of the evening was this 1930s bottle of Dunville’s VR Irish Whiskey. The intensity of late bidding ramped up pushing the hammer price to £1,350 as the timer ended. Another old bottle receiving plenty of interest was an equally well preserved 1940s Dewar’s White Label that sold for £280.
Sticking with vintage bottles, this 1940s Green Chartreuse sold for an impressive £1,750.
A Kweichow Moutai dating from the 1970s-80s was another lot that saw some late competition before settling on a winning bid of £725.
Politics can often leave you feeling the need for a stiff drink, and one bidder picked up this House of Commons 8 Year Old signed by ex-British Prime Minister Tony Blair for £240.
