June 2026 Whisky & Spirits Auction Results

It was a mixed bag among this month’s top lots with a spread of Scotch whiskies from various regions, interspersed with Cognac, Japanese whisky and Chartreuse. Here are a few of the highlights from our June Whisky & Spirits Auction.

*Aftersales Update*

There were a few more additions to our top lots at the conclusion of the aftersales for the June auction. Joining the Macallan Private Eye to take joint top spot at £2,500 was a Hibiki 30 Year Old in its gorgeous Kagami crustal decanter.

Also sneaking into the top five was a Glenlivet 1973 Cellar Collection bottled in 2009 that received an accepted bid of £1,500.

A Bowmore 25 Year Old The Gulls with the art on its ceramic bottle inspired by a Scottish folk tale, sold for £480.

Scotch Whisky

The top spot for our June auction went to a bottle of the instantly recogniseable, Ralph Steadman illustrated Macallan Private Eye. Bottled in 1996 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the satirical magazine, this sold for £2,500.

For bidders interested in long-aged malts, this Talisker Xpedition Oak 43 Year Old fetched £1,750 while a mystery undisclosed distillery bottle of Speyside’s Finest 1965 43 Year Old from Douglas Laing sold for £900. From another indie bottler, this Caol Ila 1981 37 Year Old single cask bottled for Mackillop’s Rare Masters Collection received a winning bid of £725.

Two standouts if sherried Highland malts were on your watchlist, were this Dalmore 25 Year Old bottled in the 1980s by Whyte & Mackay (£1,250) and a Glendronach 1968 25 Year Old (£975).

Japanese Whisky

Leading this month’s Japanese category was a Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt 25 Year Old fetching £1,150. With the same age statement, a lesser seen lot of Suntory Prestige 25 Year Old presented in a Kagami crystal decanter sold for £625.

Yamazaki featured prominently with a trio of Yamazaki 18 Year Old miniatures all bottled in 2004 that fetched between £675-£800 each. In contrast, two full size (70cl) Yamazaki 18 Year Olds fetched £380 and £430 apiece. An earlier release of the Yamazaki 18 Year Old bottled in the 1990s and presented with its original box, fetched a hammer price of £1,150.

Cognac

No one does fancy decanters better than Cognac and leading the way this month was an instantly recogniseable Frapin Cuvee 1888 with its 24 carat gold spiral ringing the crystal decanter. This sold for £1,800 after some late bidding.

Even stripping away the flashy decanter can allow the liquid to stand alone as this sample bottle of Hennessy Paradis Imperial showed, fetching a hammer price of £700.

Vintage Cognacs included this Bisquit Dubouche & Co 1922 Cognac in very good condition and including the original box (£380) and a Hine 1935 bottled in 1964 (£310).

Roundup

Vintage Chartreuse continues to attract collectors and despite not achieving the heady prices of a few years ago, old bottles still frequently fetch four figures at auction. This Chartreuse Yellow bottled in the 1940s sold for £1,000 while a pair of 3cl miniatures dating from the 1950s-60s fetched £120.

In further small bottle news, a set of five miniature Kweichow Moutai, bottled for The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Of The People’s Republic Of China sold for £160.

Bottles signed by politicians is not as niche an area of whisky auctions as you may think and perhaps surprisingly when it comes to this unusual form of popularity contest, the frequent winner is Mrs Thatcher. While not reaching some of the previous highs of bottles signed by the Iron Lady, this House of Lords blend still fetched a respectable £110.
