June 2026 Fine & Rare Wine Auction Results

From Old World wines hailing from legendary vintages to 100 point gems, this auction had wines to entice connoisseurs and collectors alike. Here are just a selection of the highlights from our June Fine & Rare Wine auction.

Burgundy

Despite the Bordeaux category comfortably outnumbering all the other regions in the auction, it was Burgundy that powered through to take the top two spots in the auction with première place going to a magnum of 2001 Grands Echezeaux from Domaine de la Romanee Conti , sold for £3,500. Following closely was a 2013 Richebourg Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy with a hammer price of £3,200.

A 1997 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru from Domaine Roumier sold for £1,400 and a 100 pointer from Jean Frederic Mugnier in the shape of this 2015 Musigny Grand Cru fetched £1,250.

While reds took the majority of the headline spots, there were some stunning whites to be found such as this 2006 Montrachet Grand Cru from Domaine De Comtes Lafon (£1,300) and a Domaine Laflaive 1990 Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru (£925).

Bordeaux

As mentioned, there was no shortage of Bordeaux wines for connoisseurs with no less than 173 lots on offer. Among these were some exceptional cases of 6 and 12 bottles. Leading these was a 6 bottle case of 2018 Chateau Mouton Rothschild with its eye-catching Xu Bing designed label, that sold for £2,300.

A case of 2017 Chateau Lafite Rothschild received a winning bid of £2,100 and there were multiple 1980s vintages of Chateau Pavie presented as 12 bottle cases that proved popular with bidders.

Among solo bottle lots, the highest hammer price of £1,750 went to a bottle of 2000 Chateau Petrus, a 100 pointer from the legendary estate, described as ‘prodigious’ by Wine Advocate. Going back a few more decades, a Petrus 1967 achieved £1,150.

One of the most hotly contested bottles of the evening was a 1961 Chateau Haut Brion, from a legendary vintage, that eventually settled on a hammer price of £950.

Worth a mention are a few of the other 100 point wines available such as a 1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild (£750) and a 1990 Chateau Margaux (£600).

Large Format Bottles

The auction had a healthy population of large-format bottles, with many magnums to choose from, in addition to some even more sizeable bottles such as this 6 litre imperial of 2016 Chateau Cheval Blanc (£3,000) or a 6 litre bicentenary release of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin (£270).

Magnum bottles included a 1996 Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse De Lalande (£320), 2010 Chateau Gruaud Larose (£150), and a selection of bottles from California’s Ridge including some 2003 Geyserville (£95-£120 each) and 2003 Lytton Springs (£85-£100 each).

Fortified & Dessert Wines

Sauternes iconic Chateau D’Yquem led the way in our dessert wines category as it often does, this time it was a pre-WWII vintage 1934 Chateau D’Yquem that was won with a bid of £1,050.

It was by no means the only early 20th century vintage with a handful of ports such as this 1937 Royal Oporto Colheita (£150), 1934 Porto Dalva House Reserve (£140) and a 1937 Royal Oporto Vintage Port (£120). There were vintage ports spanning the 20th century and into the 21st, so no shortage of choice in the category.

Older still, an 1846 Campanario Blandy’s Madeira sold for £470.

Roundup

Looking at the wider wine world, there were some excellent bottles to be found, such as this 2011 Barca Velha from the Douro Valley. This bottle of Portugal’s most celebrated wine sold for £340.

There were multiple bottles of Italy’s equally celebrated Super Tuscan Bolgheri Sassicaia from the 2003 vintage fetching £280-£290 apiece.

From Australia, this 1982 Penfolds Grange Hermitage Bin 95 saw some late bidding before settling on £250 and a 2013 Penfolds Grange, awarded 100 points by Wine Advocate, sold for £240.
