June 2025 Whisky & Spirits Auction Results

There were stunning bottles to be had across all categories in our June auction, with plenty of enticing whisky lots as well as a wide selection of rums, Cognacs and a clutch of vintage liqueurs. Read on for a selection of the highlights.

*Aftersales Update*

A handful of bottles were moved on to new owners after the conclusion of our aftersales. First up, a few more additions to the range of mature malts available in the auction with this Fettercairn 1977 40 Year Old that sold for £1,600 and a Benromach 40 Year Old sold for £875.

Other Scotch whiskies finding new homes included the Charles Rennie Mackintosh inspired Macallan Art Is The Flower Collection sold for £600, a delicious looking Glendronach 1993 25 Year Old Cask No.5854 (£510), and a Highland Park 30 Year Old 2019 release (£500).

One lucky vintage Cognac collector got a Gobelin, Jerdi & Co 1875 Fine Champagne Cognac for a hammer price of £750.

Japanese Whisky

Top lot this month was taken by a stunning trio of Chichibu single cask bottlings bottled for London’s famed Sexy Fish restaurant and bar, notable for having the world’s biggest collection of Japanese whisky. The bottles were donated to raise funds for the Caring Family Foundation and did so impressively with the lot ending the auction on a winning bid of £5,200.

Among the other desirable Japanese bottles were this Hibiki 30 Year Old (£2,400), the gorgeously presented Hibiki 21 Year Old Mount Fuji (£550) and a complete four bottle set of Mars Kura Biker Journey (£330).

Mature Malts

There were plenty of mature malts for those who like their whiskies well-aged. Thirty year old malts included this Springbank 30 Year Old from the Millennium Collection that sold for £2,500, a pair of Macallan 30 Year Old 2022 Release (£2,300 each) and a Macallan 30 Year Old Colour Collection (£2,000). There were further 30 year olds on offer from BenRiach with four bottles of the 30 Year Old Four Cask Matured (£230-£270) and an SMWS bottling of BenRiach 1988 intriguingly titled ‘Invitation To The Promised Land’ that fetched £600.

A 30 Year Old Glenfarclas Warehouse Edition (£440) was the youngest of a trio of lots that also included the 35 Year Old (£410) and 40 Year Old (£725) Warehouse Edition releases.

The colourfully packaged Glenrothes 42 Year Old sold for £3,000.

Scotch Whisky

Other Scotch highlights included some highly collectible vintage bottles including a Glenugie 1966 12 Year Old bottled as part of Cadenhead’s ‘dumpy’ series that sold for £1,300. A gorgeously labelled Ardbeg 1972 13 Year Old from Italian bottler Sestante sold for £925, while fellow Islay malts such as this Lagavulin 12 Year Old 1980s bottling from White Horse Distillers (£875), Bowmore Bicentenary with branded glasses (£1,350) and Port Ellen 1982 22 Year Old (£1,150) from Douglas Laing’s Old Malt Cask series bottled for The Plowed Society also saw plenty of interest.

A St Magdalene 1970 23 Year Old from Diageo’s Rare Malts Selection and a St Magdalene 1965 Connoisseurs Choice bottled by Gordon & MacPhail showed continued interest in the closed distillery.

Other indie bottlings of note included a Glendronach 1979 16 Year Old (£340) from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and a bottle of Speyside Region 1973 43 Year Old from The Whisky Agency (£750) , an undisclosed distillery but nevertheless attracted plenty of attention from bidders.

Midleton

Our Irish whiskey section this month saw a great selection of Midleton Very Rare with vintages ranging between 2001 and 2019, providing a great opportunity for any collectors looking to conduct a vertical tasting. Top among them was the Midleton Very Rare 2003 that fetched a hammer price of £800.

Rum

It was a stacked rum section in the auction with almost 120 bottles on offer and plenty of sought after names such as Caroni, Hampden and Foursquare. The highest price of the evening was taken by this Havana Club 1519, celebrating the 500th anniversary of the city of Havana. Fittingly, only 500 of the Havana architecture inspired, mouth-blown decanters were made and this one sold for £3,800 after some spirited late bidding.

Chartreuse

The auction offered up a range of Chartreuse covering a large part of the 20th Century with bottlings dating from as early as the 1930s with this 50cl Chartreuse Green produced in Tarragona selling for £1,200. Achieving the same hammer price of £1,200 was a Chartreuse Green ‘El Gruno’ bottled in the mid-60s.

A Chartreuse Green dating from 1951-1956 achieved £925, while the sole Yellow Chartreuse in the sale, produced in Tarragona and dating from 1966-1973, sold for £725.

Johnnie Walker

The iconic whisky brand took most of the top spots in the blended whisky category with a John Walker & Sons Private Collection 2015 Edition selling for £725 leading the way. A well presented full case of 1970s Johnnie Walker Red Label, in the original box, took a winning bid of £550.

Two bottles of Johnnie Walker Black Label Extra Special bottled in the 1980s fetched an impressive £160-£170 a piece.

A handful of bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Elusive Umami, a collaboration with multiple Michelin star winning Japanese chef Kei Kobayashi, in their eye-catching packaging, sold for £110-£140 each.

Roundup

A pair of Kweichow Moutai dating from the 1970s-80s sold for £950 and £,1300 showing that there is still strong interest in older bottlings of the popular baijiu.

There were impressive prices for some vintage vermouths with two bottles of 1970s Cinzano Antica Formula fetching £220 each, while vintage Carpano Punt E Mes (£80) and Martini Rosso (£55 each) also attracted attention.
