Karuizawa 1981 Cask #4943

A rare 1981 sherry-cask-matured Karuizawa bottled in 2014 and released in 2015. The label features an image of a Suji Bachi Kabuto, a type of helmet worn by ancient Japanese warriors. Karuizawa was founded in 1955 and was Japan’s smallest whisky distillery. In 1959, they became the first distillery to export whisky overseas. Sadly, Karuizawa distillery stopped production in 2000 and closed for good in 2011.

Winning bid £3,000

Van Winkle 12 Year Old – Lawrenceburg Stitzel-Weller

An old presentation bottle of Van Winkle’s highly-sought-after 12 Year Old. As this is a pre-2002 bottling, we would expect this to contain some of the whiskey purchased from Stitzel-Weller before the closure of the Hoffman plant in Lawrenceburg.

Winning bid £1,950

Glen Grant 1954 Ian Macleod’s

A very rare Glen Grant 1954 from independent bottler Ian Macleod, released in 2005. Only 100 bottles were produced and this is now rarely seen at auction. Adding to the rarity, this particular bottle was presented to much-loved British comedian, singer, TV presenter and all-round entertainer Des O’Connor by Sir Jack Harvie, after Des performed at Sir Jack’s star-studded 70th birthday party. The bottle has a custom label, complete with Des O’Connor’s name and Sir Jack Harvie’s signature, one of a small number of customised bottles produced for performers at the party.

Winning bid £1,750

Bowmore Sherriff’s 8 Years Old Bottled 1970s

A legendary 1970s’ one-litre bottling of Bowmore Sherriff’s 8 Year Old, complete with a beautifully illustrated label and box.

Winning bid £1,500

Hirsch Selection 13 Years Old Rye

This 13-year-old straight rye whiskey was bottled by Julian Van Winkle for Preiss, a Californian wholesaler which specialises in ultra-premium spirits. It was taken from the same stock as Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye, making it similar to the non-lettered Van Winkle Rye. Hirsch’s bottlings for the 13-year-old were done at the Hoffman Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

Winning bid £975

Talisker 8 Years Old Bottled 1970s
