Beware the stern warning on the back label of this bottle of Mount Vernon Pure Rye: ‘Sale or use for other purposes will cause heavy penalties to be inflicted’!
During Prohibition, some companies were allowed to produce alcohol for medicinal use.
This one quart bottle of Mount Vernon Pure Rye Whiskey was bottled in bond by The American Medicinal Spirits Co. Distilled in Spring 1921 (one year after Prohibition started), and bottled in Fall 1933 (the year Prohibition ended).

Before he went on to found Signatory Vintage in 1988, Andrew Symington managed the Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh. A number of whiskies were bottled specially for the hotel, including some old Bowmores and this attractively sherried 1967 Springbank which earned 94 points on @whiskyfun

Bucktrout’s 40 Year Old Jamaican Rum
The certificate reads:
‘The Directors of Bucktrout & Company Limited certify that the contents of the bottle of Liberation Rum Numbered 329 is genuine Jamaica Rum, distilled before 1945 and imported into Guernsey in an Oak Puncheon before 1947, bottled in April 1985 and sold on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Liberation of Guernsey from German Occupation.
The reason that no fixed dates can be given for the distillation or importation of this rum is that the records are so old as to be indistinct, however Bucktrout & Co Ltd have been paying Bond fees on the puncheon since 1947 and the law at that time forbad the importation of Rum of an age less that 3 years old. The spirit may well be much older but we shall never know. There was a bottling of similar Rum from a smaller cask in 1975 when 4oz bottles were produced, this was however only 70° proof.’

Black Bowmore 1964, Bottled 1993
The first edition of Black Bowmore 1964, released in 1993.
The Bowmore distillery underwent an extensive upgrade in late 1963, and this bottling comes from the first distillation following the conversion. This was matured in oloroso sherry casks before bottling in 1993. Each bottle is numbered and signed by the then distillery manager, James McColl.

This bottle is signed and dated by Ardbeg’s Head of Maturing Whisky Stocks, Brendan McCarron, on 16/8/16. There is a signature on the other side which appears to read ‘Murphy LC Chang’.
